Howdy mahalo shalom, readers of the EDEN and readers of the NEON!

I am Richard Caldwell, and I will be your scripter for the duration of this voyage. We at NEON EDEN headquarters apologize for the delay of this strip, but such delays are unwholesomely unavoidable when dealing with such matters as THE ENTIRE CREATIVE TEAM BEING PULLED INTO A WORMHOLE NEXUS WE HAVE SEEN THE OTHER SIDES OH MY GOD LOVECRAFT WAS RIGHT THE COLOURS OH GOD FOREVER AND EVER AND EVER THE BLASPHEMOUS COLOURS...

ahem.

Anyhow, now that our corporeal forms are returning to third dimensional metaphysical renditions of normalcy, we are exceedingly pleased to announce that the research project was a smashing success. Meaning, fair (and unfair) readers, that operation NEON EDEN is advancing thusly. It is inching, clawing its infernal way through these intraweb'd nethers into your hindsight like the sneaky little afterthought you promised never to speak out loud. Oh accursed melodrama!

And just for a taste of things to come, I present this morsel from the long series of notes between Peter Palmiotti and I from many moons past and from many lives led ago...

"This might be a big science thing, maybe shades of the X-files. Lots of intrigue, suspense, and mystery. But human moments too, with the {REDACTED} being the main characters, and all the while encountering/investigating the mysteries from completely different approaches. Visually, I think color schemes could play into all of it as well- {REDACTED} very earthy tones, lots of browns and grays, very moody stuff. The {REDACTED} could have the painfully true dayglow-neon effect, like colors so bright as to be sublimely unnatural..."

"What do you think? It wouldn't be a religious or political thing. And I think {REDACTED} being involved would be too obvious a direction, later on. I think instead of having the plot threads point to the stars, it should reach towards the past. And {REDACTED} has ancient history. Big enough to hide a world of secrets. Or at least a city of secrets..."

So grab a cigar, boys. You have been warned, you have been invited, you have been infected.

Process - May/29/2011
by Peter Palmiotti

So I want to talk a little bit about what my process here will be and what I hope to accomplish over the first few months of putting together my strips. These will be the first comic pages I'll be doing in way too many years....I've got a ton of hopes and dreams but as a professional, when it comes right down to it... style and level of my ability will grow over time.

I'm conformable with my inking skills but when it comes to my penciling there's so much to learn. When I think about how I want NE ( Neon Eden) or BE ( Bright Eyes) to look, how I want to strip down to simple lines, shapes... going against what I do as an inking in most cases, I'm like "Yes, this is it, bare minimum, simplify my style...focus more on composition and readability!"

Easier said then done.

There's the saying that goes something like, every artist will have 2000 pages of crap before they improve! Well....in that case, I'm not going to sweat my first year or so of pages here...I'll plot, thumbnail, pencil & ink....get each page done and move onto the next! (handing them off to the rest of my team) Keeping the flow going and hopefully learning more and more along the way! That's the plan anyway.

Onto another thing, there has been many cases in my career that I've been an editor, not for credit, but for experience and mostly I stepped up to move projects forward faster making sure they progressed as well as got done. And now I find myself leading two comics here, with full teams backing me up! Its Awesome, and also a bit daunting...if I knew how to do all things, like colors, lettering,  production, it would perhaps take me longer to do then solo but in some ways would be less work in the end. I have been in the center before, its not always easy....juggling who's where in their progress, talk to this person, connect with that one...plus keep on top of your work too!! Now with my creations here, I'm taking full responsibility and leading the teams (mostly the same on the two comics) as well as learning how the heck all this works? Did I mention that? ..this is my first time doing pages then posting them online!?! I'll tell you right now....I have no clue how to do this yet!!! I can scan (tho I'll still learning if I'm doing that right yet.) but to size something right...? I have to figure out my characters colors (being an inker all this time, ugh Everything is B&W! LOL) emailing each member of my team, asking their advice, telling them what I'd like....and this is all done on our way different schedules! ...It's a lot to keep track off, and I only just started!

So, besides the work, there is the work!

And it so much god damn FUN!

I'm excited to be starting all this, besides NE & BE, I'm cover artist (and upcoming pages) on Alan & Melissa's project http://squaresthattouch.thecomicseries.com/ and I'll be inking my friend Jonny's comic http://necroticlandscape.thecomicseries.com/   as well as my whole other workload...What-The!

I've got a lot in my future, and its all GOOD!

Now, go create,

Peter.

I should mention in short that the comics won't have a set schedule for quite some time, I'll post as pages get done...and work up to getting one. (but it may be a few months before that happens!)
